Trade shows like PV EXPO (太陽光発電展, the International Photovoltaic Power Generation Expo) are always a great pulse-check on the solar industry, and the spring 2023 edition was no different. We participated from March 15-17 at Tokyo Big Sight, and it turned out to be one of our most engaging and productive outings yet.
Japan’s solar market was heating up at the time, with strong policy support for renewables, a big push toward carbon neutrality, and growing emphasis on rooftop, commercial, and innovative space-saving installations—especially given the country’s land constraints. The event drew a focused crowd of serious players, and our booth was busy from open to close.
We welcomed over 500 visitors across the three days—EPC contractors, project developers, distributors, commercial building owners, and utility representatives, mostly from Japan with solid Asia-Pacific interest. Everyone was hunting for mounting solutions that could deliver reliability in tough conditions: high winds, seismic risks, heavy snow in some regions, and creative ways to use existing or limited space.
We put our core products front and center with interactive displays and plenty of technical deep-dives:
- Ground mounting systems — robust and adaptable for utility-scale and large commercial projects, with strong structural integrity and easy adjustments for varied terrain.
- Roof mounting systems — designed for quick, non-penetrating installs on industrial and commercial rooftops, helping clients maximize available space without major disruptions.
- Carport mounting systems — which drew strong interest as Japan explores efficient ways to turn parking lots and open paved areas into dual-purpose solar generation sites.
- BIPV (Building-Integrated Photovoltaics) solutions — attracting attention for their ability to blend solar generation seamlessly into building designs, facades, and structures—perfect for urban and architectural projects.
Our team ran hands-on demos, shared engineering specs, and walked through compliance with standards like JIS and IEC, showing how our systems boost yield, reduce long-term costs, and handle Japan’s real environmental challenges.
The conversations were the real highlight. We held more than 100 targeted meetings, discussing project specifics and customizing recommendations. By the show’s end, we’d initiated promising distribution partnerships with a couple of key Japanese players, collected high-quality leads from around 200 qualified B2B prospects (many focused on mid-to-large scale deployments), and received excellent feedback on our product’s durability and practicality.
One EPC contact summed it up well: “Your mounting systems feel engineered with Japan’s unique needs in mind—solid, flexible, and straightforward to implement.” Feedback like that makes the long booth days rewarding.
All told, PV EXPO 2023 at Tokyo Big Sight was a genuine success for SR Solar. It strengthened our position in the Japanese market and opened meaningful doors during a pivotal time for solar growth.
